Several parts of Mumbai witnessed unseasonal 'winter rain' on Saturday morning, which the regional meteorological centre termed as 'unusual but not unrecorded' for the city.
The sharp showers, due to an upper air cyclonic circulation above north Konkan and Saurashtra, though not measured by the department at its Santacruz and Colaba rain gauges, were as active in the island city as in several suburbs, especially the western stretch from Malad to Bhayandar.
"The showers were unusual, though not unrecorded before. Stray incidents of rain were recorded by us earlier, including in February 2013," Deputy Director General of Meteorology K S Hosalikar told Mirror. He added that there was moisture incursion in the air because of changing weather conditions and winds blowing in from the Arabian Sea.
MET office said showers could continue for another 24 hours before receding. The department has forecast maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and minimum of 18 degrees for Mumbai during the weekend. MMB
